Yes, i’m posting another video having to do with Rob Bell. As much as i’m “tired” of all the discussion… i’m also intrigued by it.
I’m anxious to get a copy of the book and read and interpret for myself what Rob Bell is, at his heart, trying to communicate or suggest.
I posted this clip above (only a small portion of the whole interview) because i found it very interesting. More directly i found the question that the interviewer asked to be interesting.
I actually think that specific point and idea, of the sweater unraveling, is what people are afraid of and why Bell has been hit so hard.
I am at a point in my life where i believe we should be able to test and pull and examine what we believe and that if it really is “the gospel truth” then it should stand up to all the poking and prodding. I don’t feel that we should jump up and scream “heretic” because someone is introducing new questions and thoughts into the discussion. Shouldn’t we able to take those questions and the things we hold to be true down to “the crucible” to be tested and let the truth rise to the top? Or should we trying to “swing our club” as hard as we can to knock “the other guy” and his ideas out of the ring? If that’s the case, we’re only “right” cuz we’re louder or a bigger bully… and i don’t think i want any part of that.
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:15
Regardless of where we land on the issue, we need to do so and respond in an appropriate manner. That’s really all i’m trying to say.
I have no doubt that if we’re truly seeking God’s face that the truth will rise to the surface. There is no need for bashing, posturing or name calling. I pray that we not lean and stand on tradition but on the truth that is before us and learn to quiet our own voices so we can hear God’s whispers to us.
