I heard the intro to this past weeks sermon given by Rob Bell at Mars Hill Church and thought in the midst of all the “controversy” surrounding him and his new book, that i’d like to type it out and post it.
Here ya go…
“My name is Rob and I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I’m a Christian.
And… I, uh…
And I believe in Jesus.
And I believe Jesus is the way.
And I believe in heaven.
And I believe in hell.
And I believe the Bible is God’s word.
And I am not a universalist, because I believe God’s love is so great God lets you decide.
I believe in the communion of the Saints.
I believe the church is the fullness.
I believe in the new heaven and a new earth.
I believe in healing.
I believe in miracles.
I believe in salvation.
I believe in the power of prayer.
I believe that God is alive and working.
I believe there has been a resurrection and there is a whole new creation bursting forth in the midst of this one…
and I also believe it’s best to only discuss books you’ve actually read.”
An impassioned response from a man who is receiving a firestorm of criticism these days.
I’d have to say i’m really rather impressed by how he’s been handling it, publicly.
